I am Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen of France and England, mother of Richard I ‘the Lionheart’ – and patron of the apartments in Dürnstein. When my son was held captive in Dürnstein, I embarked on a diplomatic feat of strength. With determination, influence and skilful negotiation, I did everything in my power to secure Richard’s release and bring him back to England.
