A river valley straight out of a picture book, vines swaying gently in the breeze, the magic of apricot blossom, romantic forests and ancient treasures that bring the history of the Wachau to life. Together, all these facets create a hiking paradise offering the perfect trails for every age group and every taste.

Vogelberg Trail (approx. 2.5 hours)
The Vogelberg Trail is one of the most beautiful ascents in the Wachau, offering stunning views of Dürnstein and the Danube. The trail leads through the Talgraben valley via the Fesslhütte mountain hut and the ruins before returning to Dürnstein.

Achleiten Panorama Trail (approx. 3 hours)
The panorama trail leads from Weißenkirchen through the famous Achleiten vineyard site and Klaus, via the hamlet of Schildhütten and back to Weißenkirchen. Winekeeper huts and wayside shrines bear witness to old traditions. Enjoy magnificent panoramic views across the Danube valley.

Seekopf–Hirschwand Trail (approx. 4 hours)
Starting in St. Lorenz, the hike leads uphill in several hairpin bends. Passing rock formations, the trail follows the ridge up to Hirschwand. A little later, you reach Seekopf, a beautiful viewpoint offering fantastic panoramic views. The route then descends back towards the Danube and returns to St. Lorenz.

Rossatz Panorama Trail (approx. 3 hours)
This easy and enjoyable hike starts at the Schiffstation Rossatzbach car park on the B33 road. From there, the trail follows the edge of the forest to Rührsdorf, where the Winzerstüberl invites you to stop for refreshments. Afterwards, the route continues through the Rührsdorf and Danube floodplain forests before returning to the car park.

Following in the footsteps of history

Experience the Wachau World Heritage Trail with its 180 kilometres of scenic routes and hike 14 stages through the rich history and vibrant present of the Wachau region. This long-distance hiking trail connects the 13 municipalities of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau via some of the most beautiful hiking paths and historic trails.

The panoramic trail leads to unforgettable viewpoints and passes 20 castles, ruins and palaces, the Wachau wine-growing region (characterised by stone terraces and spectacular vineyards), the Kremstal valley, three monasteries and the Jauerling mountain (nature park and the highest mountain along the Danube at 960 m). The long-distance trail is divided into 14 stages and can be hiked in both directions. Thanks to the Jauerling loop and the three ferry connections (Rossatz–Dürnstein, St. Lorenz–Weißenkirchen, Arnsdorf–Spitz), numerous variations and individual options are available for your hiking holiday.
